FKA Twigs/Design/Social media

In the GRIN studio we’ve been excited recently adding to our instagram and working out how we can make the most of it – understanding it as another format to design for and it’s strengths and limitations (and partly inspired by this). As a part of this conversation we soon turned to FKA Twigs and the instagram specific magazine she has been behind (issues 1 and 2 are below but for more in depth conversation see issue 1 here and issue 2 here). This is how you exploit the medium and do something specific within that medium that I hadn’t seen before – and do it well. Everyone knows that you can swipe between multiple images on the same instagram post and to also make them flow seamlessly. However, to do it so fluidly and with such a distinct style makes this stand out from the rest.

As a part of her work with Nike FKA Twigs had also published a physical zine that again demonstrates the same feel and mood as the AVANTgarden magazine but again in a way that is very specific to the printed/lo-fi zine format. It’s inspirational to see the combination of traditional print and new social media used in such an innovative way and so well executed.
